Find the zeroes of the following quadratic polynomials and verify the relationship between the zeroes and the coefficients

4u2 + 8u

Solution

4u2 + 8u = 4u(u + 2)

= 4[u - 0][u - (-2)]

The zeroes of the polynomial are {0, 2}

Relationship between the zeroes and the coefficients of the polynomial

Sum of the zeroes =`4 -2=2 =-(-2)/1=-("coefficient of " x)/("coefficient of " x^2)`

Also product of the zeroes =` 4 xx - 2 =-8=(-8)/1="constant term"/("coefficient of " x^2)`
