Find the value of θ in each of the following :

(i) 2 sin 2θ = √3      (ii) 2 cos 3θ = 1

Solution

(i) 2 sin 2θ= √3

⇒ sin 2θ= √3/2

⇒ sin 2θ= sin 60°

⇒ 2θ= 60° ⇒ θ = 30°

(ii) 2 cos 3θ = 1

⇒ cos 3θ = 1/2

⇒ cos 3θ = cos 60°

⇒ 3θ = 60° ⇒ θ = 20°.
