# Find the Value of Discriminant. X2 + 7x – 1 = 0 - Algebra

Find the value of discriminant.

x2 + 7x – 1 = 0

#### Solution

x2 + 7x – 1 = 0

Comparing the given equation with  $a x^2 + bx + c = 0$

$a = 1, b = 7 \text{ and } c = - 1$So, the discriminant

$b^2 - 4ac = \left( 7 \right)^2 - 4 \times 1 \times \left( - 1 \right) = 49 + 4 = 53$
