Sum

Find the root of the quadratic equations by using the quadratic formula in the following:

2x2 – 3x – 5 = 0

#### Solution

ax2 + bx + c = 0, a ≠ 0 is given by,

x = (-b +- sqrt(b^2 - 4ac))/(2a)

∴ x = (-(3) +- sqrt(3^%2 - 4(2)(-5)))/(2(2))

= (3 +- sqrt(49))/4

= (3 +- 7)/4

= 5/2, -1
