Solution

The quadratic formula for finding the roots of quadratic equation

ax2 + bx + c = 0, a ≠ 0 is given by,

∴ `x = (-5 +- sqrt(5^2 - 4(-3)(12)))/(2(-3))`

= `(-5 +- sqrt(169))/(-6)`

= `(5 +- 13)/6`

= `3, -4/3`
