an = 2n2 – 6
a1 = 2(1)2 – 6 = 2 – 6 = – 4
a2 = 2(2)2 – 6 = 8 – 6 = 2
a3 = 2(3)2 – 6 = 18 – 6 = 12
a4 = 2(4)2 – 6 = 32 – 6 = 26
∴ The first four terms are – 4, 2, 12, 26, …
