Sum
Factorise : 2(x + 2y)2 - 5(x + 2y) + 2
Advertisement
Solution
2(x + 2y)2 - 5(x + 2y) + 2
Let x + 2y = a, then
2a2 - 5a + 2
⇒ 2a2 - a - 4a + 2
= a(2a - 1) - 2(2a - 1)
= (2a - 1)(a - 2)
= {2(x + 2y - 1)} {(x + 2y) - 2} ...(a = x + 2y)
= (2x + 4y - 2)(x + 2y - 2)
