Explain why heating systems based on circulation of steam are more efficient in warming a building than those based on circulation of hot water

Solution 1

A heating system based on the circulation of steam is more efficient in warming a building than that based on the circulation of hot water. This is because steam contains surplus heat in the form of latent heat (540 cal/g).

Solution 2

Steam at 100°C possesses more heat than the same mass of water at 100°C. One gram of steam at 100°C possesses 540 calories of heat more than that possessed by 1 gm of water at 100°C. That is why heating systems based on circulation of steam are more efficient than those based on circulation of hot water.
