Pelagic fish
- These are generally small in size and swim near the surface.
- They are found in large shoals and may be caught close to the shore or far out at sea.
- E.g., macrakel, herring, etc.
Demersal fish
- These fish live at the bottom of shallow seas.
- They prefer cooler waters and thus, are most frequently found at depths of about 40 meters where sunlight can easily penetrate.
- E.g., cod, halibut, etc.
