State and explain the "law of independent assortment" in a typical Mendelian dihybrid cross. 

Solution

Mendel derived ‘the law of independent assortment’ from a dihybrid cross. This law states that the two factors of each character assort or separate independently of the factors of the other characters at the time of gamete ormation and get randomly rearranged in the offspring producing both parental and new combinations of traits.
