What is meant by Lok Adalats?
Lok Adalat means ‘the court of the people’. It gives legal help and quick justice to people who are not able to engage lawyers or bear the cost of legal proceedings.
The term Lok Adalat means ‘People’s Court’. It was set up by Legal Services Authorities on the recommendation of Justice P. N. Bhagwati. Lok Adalats were set up to provide legal aid to people who were not in a position to hire or engage lawyers or bear the expenses of legal proceedings.
