What happens when n-butyl chloride is treated with alcoholic KOH,

Solution 1

When n-butyl chloride is treated with alcoholic KOH, but-1-ene is formed.

CH3-CH2-CH2-CH2-Cl + Alc.KOH → CH3-CH2-CH=CH2 + KCl + H2O

                                                                     but-1-ene

 

Solution 2

When n−butyl chloride is treated with alcoholic KOH, the formation of but−l−ene takes place. This reaction is a dehydrohalogenation reaction.
