Calculate the shortest wavelength of the spectral lines emitted in Balmer series.

[Given Rydberg constant, R = 107 m–1]

Solution

For Blamer series, wavelength is given as

`1/lambda=R(1/2^2-1/n^2)`

For shortest wavelength, 

`:.1/lambda=R(1/2^2-0)=R/4`

`=>lambda=4/R=4xx10^-7 m`
