Solution

For hydrogen electrode,  `H^(+) +e^(-) -> 1/2 H_2` it is given that pH = 10

∴[H+] = 10−10 M

Now, using Nernst equation

`H_(H^(+)/(1/2H_2))=  E_(H^(+)/(1/2H_2))^theta- RT/(nF) In 1/[H^(+)]`

`=E_(H^(+)/(1/2H_2)) - 0.0591/1 log ""1/[H^+]`

`=0 - 0.0591/1 log"" 1/[10^(-10)]`

= −0.0591 log 1010

= −0.591 V
