Calculate the molecular masses of the following :

Ammonia, NH3

(Atomic masses : H = 1 u ; O = 16 u ; Cl = 35.5 u ; N = 14 u ; C = 12 u)

Solution

Given:

Atomic mass of N = 14 u

Atomic mass of H = 1 u

Therefore, molecular mass of NH3 can be calculated as follows:

(1 × 14) + (3 × 1) = 17

Hence, molecular mass of NH3 is 17 u.
