Find the area of a triangle whose vertices are A(3, 2), B (11, 8) and C(8, 12).

Solution

Let A = `(x_1 , y_1 ) = (3, 2), B = (x_2 , y_2 ) = (11, 8), C=(x_3,y_3)=(8,12) `

 be the given points.

1. Area of a given triangle is given by 

Area of triangle = `1/2 {x_1(y_2-y_3)+x_2(y_3-y_1)+x_3(y_1-y_2)}`

Area of the given triangle =`1/2[3{8-12}+11{12-2}+8(2-8)]`

                                          =`1/2((-12)+110-48)`

                                          =`50` square unit
