- The elements S, Cl, and Ar belong to third period of the periodic table.
- Across a period, effective nuclear charge increases and atomic size decreases with increase in atomic number. Therefore, the energy required for the removal of an electron from the valence shell (I.E.) increases in the order: S < Cl < Ar.
