MCQ

A shopkeeper sells one transistor for ₹ 840 at a gain of 20% and another for ₹ 960 at a loss of 4%. His total gain or loss percent is

#### Options

• 5 15/17% loss

• 5 15/17% gain

• 6 2/3% gain

• None of these

#### Solution

5 15/17% gain

Explanation :

SP of first transistor = ₹ 840

Gain % = 20%

∴ CP of the first transistor = 100/(100 + 20) xx 840

= 100/120 xx 840 = ₹ 700

Again, SP of the second transistor = 960

Loss % = 4%

∴ CP of the second transistor = 100/(100 - 4%) xx 960

= 100/96 xx 960 = ₹ 1000

∴ Total SP = 840 + 960 = ₹ 1800

And total CP = 700 + 1000 = ₹ 1700

Hence, gain % = (1800 - 1700)/1700 xx 100

= 100/17 = 5 15/17%
