# A Die is Rolled, Then the Probability that a Number 1 Or 6 May Appear is (A) 2/3 (B) 5/6 (C) 1/3 (D) 1/2 - Mathematics

MCQ

A die is rolled, then the probability that a number 1 or 6 may appear is

• 2/3

•  5/6

• 1/3

•  1/2

#### Solution

1/3

Total number of sample space, S = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6}
∴ n(S) = 6
Let A be the event of getting the number 1 or 6.
A = {1, 6}
i.e. n(A) = 2
Hence, required probability = $\frac{n\left( A \right)}{n\left( S \right)} = \frac{2}{6} = \frac{1}{3}$
