# A Cistern of Milk Caitains a Mixture of Milk and Water in the Ratio of 11 :4. If the Cistern Contains 60 Litres of Milk, - ICSE Class 10 - Mathematics

#### Question

A cistern of milk caitains a mixture of milk and water in the ratio of 11 :4. If the cistern contains 60 litres of milk, how much more water must be added to make the
ratio of milk to water as 11:6 ?

#### Solution

Quantity of milk = 60 xx 11/15 = 44 litres

Quantity of water in it= 60-44 = 16 litres

New ratio= 11:6

Let quantity of water to be added further be x litres.

Then, milk : water = 44/(16 + "x")

Now ,

44/(16 + "x") = 11/6

⇒ 264 = 176 + 11x

⇒ 11x = 88

⇒ x = 8

Therefore, 8 litres of water need to be added further.
