Solution

There are 52 playing cards.

∴ n(S) = 52

Let B be the event that the card drawn is a spade.

There are 13 spade cards.

∴ n(B) = 13

∴  P(B) = `("n"("B"))/("n"("S"))`

= `13/52`

= `1/4`

Hence, the probability that the card drawn is a spade is  =`1/4`.
