# Surface Area of a Cuboid and a Cube

A cuboid is made of six rectangular faces when we cut and open a cuboid we can see there are six rectangular shapes which   collectively make a cuboid. In order to find the area of cuboid we have to sum of the area of those six faces .

So , the total surface area of cuboid
= h xx l + b xx l + b xx h + l xx h + b xx h + l xx b
= 2 (h xx l + b xx h + b xx l )
Total surface area = 2 (lb + bh + hl)
Lateral surface Area of cuboid = 2 lb + 2 bh
= 2 (l + b) h
This gives us:

Surface Area of a Cuboid = 2 (lb + bh + hl)

The length, breadth and height are all equal, is called a cube. If each edge of the cube is a, then the surface area of this cube would be

Surface Area of a Cube = 6a^2
