description

  • Homologous characteristics
  • Analogous characteristics

notes

(i) Homologous Organs:-

- These are organs that have same basic structural plan and origin but different functions.

-Homologous organs provide evidence for evolution by telling us that they are derived from the same ancestor.

e.g. Wings of Bat.

(ii) Analogous Organs:-

-These are the organs that have different structure and origin but their function is the same.

- They provide mechanism for evolution.

e.g. wing of bat-elongated fingers with skin folds

wing of bird- feathery covering along the arm
